From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Despite looking like a deal had been completed on Friday night, the Paul Pogba saga continues to roll on.

Since the end of the season, the Frenchman has dominated the headlines with speculation over his future at Juventus and whether or not he will actually make the move to Old Trafford.

Journalists have confided in their “sources”, pundits have had their say and associates of the player have added fuel to the fire with subtle hints here and there that have left the media guessing.

As a result, it has become one of the most protracted and convoluted transfer stories in recent times - so much so that it now begs the question will it even happen?

Although the story has been gathering pace across the last two months or so, it has well and truly taken off since Euro 2016 drew to an end in Paris on July 10.

So with United and Jose Mourinho currently preparing for the new season, and murmurings that a deal has already been formalised, take a look through the gallery above to see how the Paul Pogba story has unravelled over the past three weeks.
