From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to smash the world transfer record to sign Neymar from Barcelona. Apparently the Brazil international's contract talks at the Nou Camp have stalled and United are ready to swoop by paying the 23-year-old's release clause of £140m.

Liverpool are understood to have completed a deal with Marko Grujic, with a fee agreed with Red Star Belgrade and personal terms all sorted. All that remains is to officially announce the 19-year-old's arrival and that should happen today. Grujic has posted on his Facebook: "On 4th January I will become a Liverpool player." The Serbian is expected to be immediately loaned back to Red Star for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea's attempts to bolster their strike force have seen them linked with Lokomotiv Moscow striker Oumar Niasse. According to Italian journalist Matteo Pedrosi the reigning Premier League champions are "really interested" in signing the 25-year-old. He's valued in the region of £7m.

Arsenal are being strongly linked with Adrien Rabiot after Arsene Wenger indicated that the club could make two signings in the next 10 days. Mohamed Elneny is on the verge of joining the Gunners, sparking speculation over who will be the other. Rabiot has publicly voiced his unrest at current club PSG and his manager Laurent Blanc has said he is annoyed at the young midfielder - with Wenger a fan could it signal a move to the Emirates?

What to expect from Arsenal this transfer window

One player who doesn't look likely to be coming to the Premier League is former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez. The Mexican has been tipped for a return after making an impressive start to his Bayer Leverkusen career. But Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller said: “It’s easy to reject offers when you are in a position you don’t need to sell. We will keep all the players we want to help us achieve our goals.”
