Thankfully for United, all of those other players went on to have strong careers at the club.
Jaap Stam (1998) £10.6m
The Dutch defender moved to Old Trafford in 1998, and quickly became an integral part of Sir Alex Ferguson's side. He won three Premier League titles,one FA Cup, and the Champions League.
Ruud van Nistelrooy (2001) £19m
Scored exactly 150 goals for the club in all competitions between 2001 and 2006. The prolific striker won one Premier League, one FA Cup, plus League Cup for the side.
Ji-Sung Park (2005) £4m
The news of Depay's transfer to United was confirmed today when PSV issued a statement on their official club website that said a deal is in place for Depay to join United.
It read: "PSV and Manchester United have reached an agreement on the transfer of Memphis Depay to the English club .
They also confirmed that Depay has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, and will now travel to Manchester to complete the necessary paperwork and medical.
