Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Memphis Depay has flown into Manchester to have his medical ahead of his £25m move to Manchester United, according to reports.
United agreed a deal with PSV Eindhoven for the 21-year-old earlier this month. The transfer could eventually set United back £30m based on add-ons.
Depay said while on a promotional trip to London last week that he aims to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo and become the best player in the world.
“I believe I can be one of the best players in the world and I have to dream and believe to achieve that,” he said.
Depay, who scored 22 goals in the Eredivisie this season for PSV, will be reunited with Louis van Gaal, who gave him his international debut in October 2013.
"I have a good relationship with him," Depay said of Van Gaal. "In the World Cup he trained very hard and that is what I like.
"I learned a lot from him. He is very strict and that is what I like. If I do something good he is going to tell you, and that's important, but also if you can do it better he is going to tell you that.
'I believe he can make me better. I am young and I want to be one of the best players in the world."
