Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 26-year-old has been widely reported as United top summer target, and his future at the Bundesliga is now even more periolous after last week's news that Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp would be stepping down at the end of the season.
The report in today's Bild claims that the opening bid has been made, but Dortmund are hoping for a figure closer to $45m (£32m).
The German World Cup winner Hummels is under contract with Dortmund until 2017.
He already has two Bundesliga titles to his name having won back-to-back championships with Dortmund in 2010-11 and 2011-12, plus a German Cup success in 2011-12 and the unsuccessful Champions League final appearance at Wembley in 2013.
Earlier this season, Hummels had said that he would contemplate a move abrad. He has played in the German top-flight all of his career, having moved from Bayern Munich permanently in 2009.
"I think moving abroad will be good for my professional and personal well-being,” said Hummels. “Eventually, I'd like to leave the Bundesliga.
