Arsenal are willing to use Carl Jenkinson as a makeweight in the deal to sign Newcastle right-back Mathieu Debuchy, according to reports.

The 29-year-old is believed to have undergone a medical with the Gunners and agreed personal terms, but the Gunners continue to wrangle over the fee for the France international.

Newcastle want £11 million for Debuchy - double the fee they paid Lille to sign him 18 months ago - and it is believed they want to use the funds to sign Netherlands full-back Daley Blind or Daryl Janmaat from Feyenoord.

However, the Daily Mail report that Arsenal are unwilling to pay such a high fee and may use the Magpies' interest in Jenkinson as leverage in their bid to sign Debuchy, with a player-plus-cash package reportedly being put together.

But Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is looking to add a striker to his squad after Shola Ameobi's departure and may prefer to take Costa Rica star Joel Campbell as opposed to Jenkinson.

It remains to be seen whether Jenkinson, 22, would want to leave the club given that he signed a six-year contract in January 2012, and he may get more opportunities to play next season following Bacary Sagna's departure to Manchester City.

But Arsene Wenger's rumoured pursuit of Ivory Coast right-back Serge Aurier as well as Debuchy may suggest Jenkinson is limited to back-up role, and the lure of first-team football at St James' Park may persuade him to leave the Emirates Stadium.
