The Borussia Dortmund player has reportedly been identified as a suitable replacement for their England forward, who yesterday escalated his contract negotiations into headline news.
Walcott took to Twitter to set the record straight over TV reports of a falling out with Arsene Wenger, which he flatly denied. He also took the opportunity to update his 799,000 followers on his contract negotiations, claiming that talks have not begun.
That statement appeared to contradict the club he joined as a teenager from Southampton, with Wenger claiming earlier this year that "first contacts have been made" when warning that negotiations could be difficult based on past experiences with Walcott.
"He is very quick on the pitch, but off the pitch not always," said Wenger.
"Walcott was difficult to convince [in 2013] and that is why it took us much time," said Wenger.
"I always wanted to keep him and I still want to keep him now.
"I want him to stay and be a regular player and fight for his place, but no matter where you go if it is a big club you have to compete for your place."
With the real possibility Walcott will not extend his contract beyond it's current duration to the summer of 2016, Arsenal could move to sell him this summer to ensure he doesn't leave for free 12 months later. Should that happen, a replacement will be needed and Reus fits the bill.
The Dortmund player has long been on the radar of Europe's top clubs and with his side languishing in the wrong half of the Bundesliga table this season, the Germany international could be convinced now is the time to move.
With 24 caps for the reigning world champions, Reus would add to the German contingent of Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski (should he return from his Inter Milan loan) at the Emirates.
