The former Chelsea player has said numerous times he has no intention of leaving Bayern Munich. But then again, nothing footballers say can be taken as sacrosanct. His Dutch links and style of play make his a good fit at United.

Manchester United are ready to spend big again next summer.

Louis van Gaal was backed in his first transfer window following his arriving, leading to a spell that saw the likes of Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria, Marcos Rojo and Radamel Falcao arrive at the club.

Despite a difficult start to his tenure, which some could argue was in part due to the number of injuries sustained, a run of four straight wins has put Manchester United in the top four and led to a feeling they are capable of staying there.

The club are keen to double up in every position, and with another mass exodus of dead wood at the end of the summer, there could be numerous new faces at the club at the start of next term.

Here, we take a look at those who have been linked and the likelihood Manchester United will target them.
