The Paris Saint-Germain striker, who will leave the club upon the expiration of his contract this summer, is rumoured to be one of Mourinho's chief transfer targets.
Ibrahimovic enjoyed a successful spell under Mourinho’s management at Internazionale during the 2008/09 season, scoring 29 goals in 47 games across all competitions, and has now suggested that he could be ready to reunite with his former boss at Old Trafford.
When asked directly whether he had been approached by United at a press conference on Thursday, the Sweden international grinned, tapped his fingers and waited a while before telling reporters: "Let’s see what happens."
The 34-year-old striker also endorsed Mourinho’s imminent appointment at United and tipped him to bring success back to a club which underachieved during the reign of the sacked Louis van Gaal.
"I think it’s a great move. You want action, you bring Mourinho,” he said. “I think he is the man to bring them back to the top.
"I had a fantastic time with him. When I left Inter I said we had a short time together but I had a great time. If we will work again, I don’t know. Let’s see how things play out.
"I’ve been speaking with him every day since I left Inter so there is no secret," he added. "I have a great relationship with Mourinho and we are in contact."
Ibrahimovic has claimed several times that he already knows where he will be playing football next season
Although Ibrahimovic’s answers will offer hope to those supporters who are keen to see him in Manchester next season, he also claimed that Italy was his ‘second home’ at one point during the press conference, while speaking in his native Swedish.
Milan, another of his former clubs, have been linked with the enigmatic striker and a number of Chinese Premier League sides are also said to be interested.
Ibrahimovic finished the season as Ligue 1's top goalscorer, notching 38 goals in 23 games for Laurent Blanc's PSG.
