The Paul Pogba transfer saga will rumble on a little longer, according to reports doing the rounds on Wednesday morning.

According to ESPN, Juventus are refusing to budge on their €120m (£100m) valuation of the midfielder and will force Manchester United to pay in full.

The Serie A champions will also demand that Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, take his €25m (£21m) fee from United, not them.

Given such intransigence from Turin, we could be in for a long wait before a deal is done.

Blaise Matuidi, Pogba’s international team-mate, is widely thought to be United’s back-up option in case the deal goes awry.

According to L’Equipe, Matuidi’s manager at Paris Saint-Germain, Unai Emery, is open to the idea of the 29-year-old leaving the Parc des Princes.

"He is a very good player,” he said.

"We have a lot of left-footed defensive midfielders. If he has the opportunity to leave and if he thinks there are too many midfielders here… But I do not want him to go."

Gabriel Jesus has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, despite widespread reports that he is close to joining Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho has been keeping tabs on the 19-year-old Palmeiras forward, according to Globoesporte, yet he may be beaten to the punch by Pep Guardiola.

Jesus is one of three youngsters, along with Marlos Moreno and Leroy Sané, wanted by City.
