Manchester United have reportedly told Juventus that they’re ready to spend £100m to secure France’s Paul Pogba.

The Juventus midfielder has been heavily linked with United over the past couple of months and it appears the club are stepping up their efforts to land their top target.

If the deal were to go through it would make Pogba the first £100m player in history – four years after he left Old Trafford on a free transfer.

The current transfer record was set by Real Madrid who spent £86m to bring Wales’ Gareth Bale to the Bernabeu.

The Daily Mail has also reported that United would be prepared to hand Pogba a £250,000-a-week contract making him one of the highest paid footballers in the Premier League.

United have faced competition from Madrid to sign the player but the Spanish side appear to have cooled their interest in recent weeks, with both Marca and AS suggesting the club have instead turned their attention to Leicester’s N’Golo Kante.

Jose Mourinho’s side have already signed three players as the Portuguese looks to restore United’s world-class status after missing out on the Champions League for the second time in three years.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently signed on a free transfer while the arrival of Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a reported combined total of £65m has further bolstered the United squad.

Pogba now remains the top target for Mourinho whose reputation within the footballing world could be enough to prise the Frenchman away from Juventus.

The 23-year-old is set to start in France’s Sunday night quarter-final against Iceland and will be looking to prove his worth after a mixed campaign so far at Euro 2016.
