Newcastle United are in the lead to sign Manchester United outcast Wilfried Zaha, according to reports.

According to the Sunday People, United are ready to ditch the 21-year-old winger, who has played just four matches since arriving on a deal worth up to £15m last summer - though only £10m of that has been paid - for just £7m.

Alan Pardew is leading the race for Zaha's signature though there is interest from former side Crystal Palace as well as Championship side Nottingham Forest.

Zaha has tried his best to impress new manager Louis van Gaal but he had limited playing time during United's tour of the US, and the club have just one more pre-season game, against Valencia, before starting their Premier League campaign at home to Swansea City on Saturday.

Newcastle have already spent a huge amount of money this summer as Pardew battles to win over the fans who turned on him last season. Nine players have already arrived at St James' Park, with nearly £40m spent.

Crystal Palace have had a much more low-key window, with just three arrivals costing £800,000, but the south London club feel £7m represents good value for their former man.

Zaha played 11 matches on loan at Cardiff last season, but started just five of those and failed to get on the score sheet.
