Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has reportedly injected new hope into the club's efforts to sign Juventus star Arturo Vidal and could even wrap up a deal by the end of next week.

According to the Sunday People, the Red Devils are now increasingly hopeful of securing the Chilean's services and are willing to part with the £35m it would take to make the deal happen.

Earlier in the week, the 27-year-old dismissed reports that he was headed for Old Trafford by claiming that he had no intention of moving to England.

Speaking to the Italian press, namely the Gazzetta Dello Sport, he bluntly revealed: "I do not go to Manchester."

After signing Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw on lucrative deals, and considering van Gaal's interest in Angel di Maria, it would seem likely that United's spending could break the £100m mark in the coming weeks.

The Real Madrid ace, disillusioned with life in Spain following the arrivals of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos at the Santiago Bernabeu, would set the Premier League club back by around £45m.

Vidal has been linked with a switch to English football for months, with Liverpool also interested in adding him to their Champions League squad, but United has always appeared to be the most likely destination.

After impressing at this summer's World Cup in Brazil, the Juventus star's stock is climbing an ever steepening gradient and he would compliment a midfield in need of strengthening.

van Gaal's side are currently on a pre-season tour of the United States and, after their 7-0 demolition of LA Galaxy, laboured to a 3-2 victory over Roma this weekend.

"I am pleased that we have won but it was not a good performance," the Dutchman said at full-time.

"54,000 people came to watch us but we can perform much better. All my good passers failed today. I think it was because of the height and the air.

"Mata, Herrera and Kagawa - these are the best passers (at the club), and everything went wrong."
