Manchester United retain a significant interest in acquiring the services of the Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado.

However, Louis van Gaal's pursuit of the Viola player is being complicated by fears that United could be pulled into a price war as Cuadrado's potential transfer becomes increasingly public news.

That would suit Fiorentina, who are resigned to losing a man who increased his stock at the World Cup in Brazil with four goals and an assist.

A £29 million offer from the Manchester giants is understood to have been tabled, with the Florentine club now ready to negotiate a deal.

Yet according to reports, Barcelona are still desirous of beating United to the signature of the 26-year-old - potentially throwing a spanner in the works of United's move.

Both United and Barcelona would offer Cuadrado a better deal than he is currently receiving at Fiorentina. The Viola hoped that their offer of a new contract would convince Cuadrado to stay - but yesterday it was reported that the Colombian was set to reject the offer in the hope of forcing through a move.

Van Gaal however is reluctant to discuss the transfer, believing that any unnecessary talk about the future of Cuadrado could cause his price to rocket.

He insisted following United's 3-1 International Champions Trophy victory over Liverpool that he could not talk about other players, despite being heavily linked with the Fiorentina man through the summer.

Van Gaal is known to be on the lookout for a fast, defensively-adept winger who can take care of much of the right-hand side of the pitch single-handedly. He has been impressed with how Ashley Young has developed into the role in pre-season - but Cuadrado would be the perfect fit.
