Manchester United are reportedly pursuing cheaper alternatives at left-back after being frustrated in their pursuit of Alex Sandro.

As reported on Wednesday by The Independent, Juventus will not allow Sandro to leave this winter despite the player wishing to move to the Premier League.

United, who faced competition from Chelsea for Sandro’s signature, may now look elsewhere, with Celtic’s Kieran Tierney and Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon considered.

According to the Daily Record, either Tierney or Sessegnon could be recruited as a “younger deputy” to Luke Shaw, whose improved “attitude and application” has impressed Jose Mourinho recently.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mirror reports that United have extended the contracts of Ander Herrera, Daley Blind, Ashley Young and Juan Mata by a year.

The contracts of all four players were due to expire at the end of the season but the club has triggered an option tie each player down until the summer of 2019.

No such option exists in Marouane Fellaini’s contract, however, with the Belgian midfielder still expected to leave Old Trafford this summer unless new terms are agreed.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s United future remains unclear, with the Armenian out of form and favour under Jose Mourinho, but he reportedly will not be allowed to leave on loan.

According to the Daily Star, Internazionale are keeping close tabs on Mkhitaryan’s situation but Mourinho will reject any attempt by the Serie A club to take the playmaker on a temporary move.

Mkhitaryan has started just one game since early November having suffered a put in a long run of ineffective performances during the autumn.
