Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has made no secret of his interest in Strootman, admitting over the summer he would be monitoring the midfielder's return to action. When asked about making a move for the 24-year-old, Van Gaal said he would "wait and see how he comes back".
Strootman is now back in action and likely to play a role at the Stadio Olimpico knowing that a victory for Roma will guarantee them a place in the knock-out phase of the Champions League.
Should Roma find themselves in the draw for the Last 16, it's understood the Serie A outfit will block any January move. However, if they exit Europe's elite competition they could be persuaded by a serious offer, according to reports. In the summer Roma manager Rudi Garcia placed a market value of €100m on Strootman.
