Mats Hummels will not be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to their manager Jurgen Klopp.

Hummels has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, with even rumours that a deal worth £15.8m had been reached, but Klopp dismissed any gossip and said the centre-back will be staying put.

Klopp, speaking at a sponsor’s event, said: "You know it's garbage. Hummels will stay at Dortmund."

Hummels’ impressive World Cup campaign with Germany sparked speculation that new United boss Louis van Gaal was expected to sign the 25-year-old.

The centre-back scored twice and helped keep four clean sheets on Germany's way to winning the title.

With Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra all leaving the club since the end of last season, Van Gaal may be forced to turn his attention elsewhere.

Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen is among those the club has been linked with, along with Stefan de Vrij.
