Manchester United have increased their offer for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikhk Mkhitaryan to £28m in an attempt to get the deal wrapped up swiftly, according to reports.

The 27-year-old is believed to be keen on leaving Dortmund for England this summer with Arsenal and Liverpool also rumoured to be interested in securing his services.

Last week, Mkhitaryan’s agent said it would be a “sin” to stop talking to United despite Dortmund’s best efforts keep the Armenian international after losing Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundongan to Bayern Munich and Manchester City respectively.

“It would be a sin to stop talking,” said Mino Raiola, the player’s agent. “I am a positive guy. If I wasn't confident of reaching some kind of conclusion, I wouldn't try.”

The Daily Mirror report Mkhitaryan, who has just one-year to run on his contract at the Westfalenstadion, is excited by the prospect of linking up with Jose Mourinho in the North West.

The Portuguese manager has already secured the £30m acquisition of defender Eric Bailly from Villarreal but is keen to add some extra midfield steel to his new squad.

Despite interest from Arsenal, United remain the bookmakers’ favourites to sign Mkhitaryan should he leave Dortmund, although Raiola insisted that no decision had been made and did not rule out the Armenian extending his contract at some point next season, should he remain at the German club.
