The Colombia star moved to the Bernabeu for £56m after impressing at the 2014 World Cup but the Mirror has reported that the player could be available to United for around £50m.
Spanish news outlet Don Balon has added to the speculation surrounding Rodriguez after claiming that the 24-year-old had put his house up for sale and begun looking at property in Manchester’s ‘Golden Triangle’.
After moving to Madrid in 2014, Rodriguez has struggled to cement a place in the starting line-up. Despite being a favourite of president Florentino Perez, neither Rafael Benitez nor Zinedine Zidane have shown him the same favour.
Rodriguez was left on the bench in the Champions League final as Zidane’s side overcame rivals Athletico Madrid on penalties.
In light of his lack of first-team football, the player is alleged to be keen in a potential move to United despite the fact the club won’t be participating in next season’s Champions League.
Jose Mourinho has expressed apprehensions over the player though. Having been linked with the forward since winter, Mourinho raised doubts over the player prior to his confirmation as manager.
According to The Times, Mourinho has questioned Rodriguez’s physicality and whether or not he would be able to withstand the demands of English football.
With the Copa America set to conclude this week, he should now be free to resolve his future in Spain.
