While Sancho remains the number-one target for the Premier League club, the pursuit of the England international has been met with a number of road blocks, and there is increasing doubt over whether it will be done.
United are willing to eventually walk away, and are therefore looking at other options. The Independent has been told that Sarr is one of those options.
The 22-year-old Senegal international was one of few players to impress last season for Watford, earning admiration from many top clubs for his performances though his side were relegated.
Liverpool are understood to be interested in the player, although their budget is constrained, all the more so with the imminent signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.
It would likely take a fee of at least £30million to sign the player from Watford, whose hand has been weakened by relegation.
Intermediaries are understood to have made initial enquiries.
