Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Real Madrid will apparently accept a £150million bid for Welsh winger Gareth Bale. Hmmm.
Bale, who cost Los Blancos a world record fee in 2013, was a target of United's before he moved to Spain and has been linked with a return to Britain in recent weeks.
The Metro, citing a tenuous report from Spanish gossip website Fichajes, claims that Real Madrid will accept a massive offer for the winger, who has been decent in his 18 months at the club but is still clearly second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo.
A more realistic target is Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne, who has been hugely impressive for Ronald Koeman's team this season, earning himself a place in the last England squad.
Clyne, 23, has just 18 months left on his current deal and while Southampton are trying to persuade him to sign a new contract, the Daily Mirror report that both United and Liverpool are interested.
French newspaper Le 10 Sport have linked United with another audacious bid - this time for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani. There has been continued noise about a Cavani exit but Arsenal had been previously reported to be his favourite destination, though they may not want to pay the fee.
The Uruguayan wouldn't come cheap - £62m - but is genuinely quality.
Seamus Coleman remains a target, while Luis Suarez's situation is still being monitored.
HEADING FOR THE EXIT...
Real Madrid have apparently been on the phone to David De Gea's representatives, sounding out a possible move for the Spanish goalkeeper in the summer, report the Mirror.
The 24-year-old could cost £30m, and while a possible swap deal with Bale is yet to be mentioned, one can only assume that transfer story is just round the corner. However, the Daily Star say United are desperate to keep their No 1 and will double his wages to £140,000 a week to keep him.
THE DEAL'S OFF...
Any deal for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane will have to wait until the summer, according to a number of reports.
