Manchester United are not convinced by reports in Spain that suggest Cristiano Ronaldo is keen to return to Old Trafford.

On Monday, Spanish sports daily AS claimed that Ronaldo may rejoin his former club as he is unhappy with the lack of progression in contract talks with Real Madrid.

Ronaldo’s camp have made similar noises in the past and, according to ESPN, United are taking these most recent reports with a healthy pinch of salt

Elsewhere, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is edging ever closer to the exit door.

The Armenian was left out of Jose Mourinho’s matchday squad for Monday night’s 3-0 win over Stoke City as speculation links him with a move to Arsenal.

Mkhitaryan, however, is believed to prefer a return to his former club Borussia Dortmund, who he left to join United in the summer of 2016.

As The Independent exclusively reports this morning, if Mkhitaryan insists on returning to the Bundesliga club, United could be forced to pay the full £35m asking price for Alexis Sanchez.

Lucas Moura has been linked with Old Trafford day in, day out during this transfer window but United may have new competition for the winger.

According to Sky Sports Italy, Napoli may turn to Lucas having been frustrated in their attempts to sign Simone Verdi of Bologna and Barcelona's Gerard Deulofeu.
