Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The agent of Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Marquinhos has said that Manchester United are still interested in the defender.
Giuliano Bertolucci has told French newspaper Le Parisien that Louis van Gaal is one of "many" managers interested in the 20-year-old.
"Last summer, PSG's president (Nasser Al-Khelaifi) declared that Marquinhos was unsellable," he is quoted as saying. "We will see what their position is this summer. Many clubs are interested in the player. Manchester United are one of them, this is true.
"He respects the decisions of his coach but he simply wants to play more and spend less time with the substitutes."
Earlier this week, it was reported that United would have to pay £112million for the defender.
Manchester United are confident they will sign Barcelona right-back Dani Alves, according to the (less than 100 per cent credible) Spanish website Fichajes.
Paul Pogba could be at the centre of a bidding war between some of Europe's biggest clubs this summer, with Real Madrid and PSG set to rival United for the French midfielder.
According to RMC Radio PSG have made Pogba their top target in the summer, while Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta, according to Sky Italia, has insisted Real Madrid are also looking at a deal for the Frenchman.
However, there is hope for United after Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, told Sky Sports News that the door would be open
"Paul has always said he is not angry with Manchester United – you need to move on," he said. "So there is no personal grudge against Manchester United. On the contrary, he holds Manchester United very dear and has very nice memories."
The Guardian report that Manchester United are preparing £13m bid for Austrian defender Aleksandar Dragovic. The paper states that Van Gaal is interested in the 23-year-old Dynamo Kiev centre-back, who has won 35 caps for Austria.
Roma and Juventus are also interested but he is believed to prefer a move to the Premier League.
THE DEAL'S OFF...
Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that centre-back Sergio Ramos, who has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs, is close to signing a new deal at the Bernabeu.
"There are players who wear the same jersey their whole careers," said the Italian. "That can be said about Casillas, Cristiano, as well as for Ramos." Err... Cristiano Ronaldo has played for Sporting Lisbon and United while Ramos was signed from Seville.
