Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Borussia Dortmund managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke claims it will take a colossal bid for Manchester United to prise Neven Subotic away from the Westfalenstadion.
The 21-year-old Serbia defender, who is under contract at Dortmund until 2014, has been linked in the German press with a move to Old Trafford.
But Watzke was quoted in the Bild newspaper as saying: "If Manchester want to have him, they have to sign over two oil fields to us. Or cart over at least two big lorries tightly packed full of English banknotes..."
Subotic himself is also not thinking about a move.
"It is not secret that I feel happy in Dortmund and I would still like to win something on the European stage with the team," he said. "Therefore I am not even thinking about a transfer at the moment."
Subotic, who played under-17 and under-20 football for the USA, joined Dortmund from Mainz in 2008 and plays alongside United centre-back Nemanja Vidic for Serbia.
