From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Reports in today's Daily Telegraph claim that Sir Alex Ferguson and his assistant Mike Phelan will be in attendance at the Etihad stadium to watch the Poland international when his side take on Manchester City in the Champions League this evening.
Manchester United were heavily linked with the 24-year-old across the summer after Lewandowski followed up his crucial role in delivering the Bundesliga title to Dortmund with some impressive displays at Euro 2012. The acquisition of Robin van Persie dampened the rumours, with suggestions that United went as far as submitting a £16m offer which Dortmund rejected.
Lewandowski, who has scored 31 goals in 72 league games for his club, will have a year to run on his contract at the end of the season, a situation United may be able to exploit. The Red Devils took advantage of Shinji Kagawa's diminishing contract to sign him from the Germans over the summer.
Should Lewandowski arrive at Old Trafford, it could spell the end for either Nani or Javier Hernandez, who have both struggled since the arrivals of Van Persie and Kagawa.
Chelsea have also been linked with Lewandowski should it become clear a transfer is possible.
