Daniel James will complete his £18m transfer from Swansea City to Manchester United when Fifa’s international transfer window reopens on 11 June it has been confirmed.

James agreed personal terms with United and passed a medical at Old Trafford this week before linking up with the Wales squad for their next set of European Championship qualifiers.

United will pay Swansea £15m up front for the 21-year-old, with the remaining £3m tied up in add-ons.

James fits the profile of player the manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bring to Old Trafford, namely young British talent which can develop at the club, rather than more expensive players already at or past their peak.

The winger spent much of his youth career at Hull City having grown up in the north-east of England, before switching to Swansea aged 16, where he went on to make his professional debut.

He has shone this season under the guidance of manager Graham Potter, who departed the club last month for Brighton and Hove Albion, scoring five goals and adding 10 assists, and breaking into the Welsh international setup where the United legend Ryan Giggs is manager.
