Pellegrini watched on as his side defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at St. James' Park on Sunday, but remains unhappy with the bloated nature of his squad.
Nastasić, who was regularly paired with Vincent Kompany in the centre of defence under Roberto Mancini, is believed to prefer a switch back to Italy.
The 21-year-old made 23 appearances for City last season as Pellegrini's men lifted both the Premier League and Capital One Cup but hasn't featured since the 1-0 home loss to Chelsea in February.
Richards, on the other hand, has been with the club since the tender age of 14 but has accepted that he must leave Eastlands if he is to save his England career.
"Matija needs to play," said Pellegrini. "We already have important players here with four full-backs, Demichelis, Kompany, Mangala and Boyata.
"So we will see in the next few days what happens with Nastasić. He is an important player, but he has offers and I think the best thing for him is to play.
"We will see what happens, but we have until the end of August to see what kind of offers we get for Matija.
"That also goes for Micah Richards, who didn't want to continue here because he wants to play more. He had a contract to renew, but didn't want it."
Sinclair, who has featured sparingly since his move from Swansea City two years ago, is another player set for the exit while Guidetti could be loaned out again after a spell with Stoke City.
"So we have three or four players extra - Scott Sinclair and John Guidetti are also important players - but I don't like to have so many in the squad.
"I think 22 players is enough and they are all players, who have a lot of quality. It is good for them to play."
