Falcao has been heavily linked with a loan move to Real Madrid in recent weeks, despite having spent nine months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.
The Colombian made a successful return to the Monaco side on Sunday against Arsenal in the Emirates Cup, scoring with a header. But whether he will remain in the Principality for the coming Ligue 1 season is unclear.
According to a report in the Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is interested in taking the former Porto and Atletico Madrid hitman on loan, with Alvaro Negredo currently sidelined by injury.
However, any move for Falcao would be contingent on Pellegrini moving Stefan Jovetic on from the club - a move the Chilean is unwilling to make.
Jovetic has impressed Pellegrini in pre-season, scoring five goals. News of his availability would interest Juventus and Fiorentina, according to Gazzetta - with Jovetic's former club in Florence the more likely destination.
The situation is complicated further by the apparently intransigent stance of Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim, who has ruled out the sale of the striker signed for €60 million last summer.
"Falcao is indispensable to Monaco," said the Portuguese following his side's 1-0 Emirates Cup win over Arsenal on Sunday.
"Falcao will remain at Monaco for the 2014/15 season."
Pellegrini is still seeking reinforcements to his squad ahead of the new Premier League season. He would like to complete a deal for Porto's centre-back Eliaquim Mangala in the next 48 hours - but has been told that the French international centre-back will be his last summer signing.
