Manchester City have finished their transfer business for the summer after chief executive Ferran Soriano confirmed they will not be looking to sign anyone else this summer – but did confirm he expected addition of Eliaquim Mangala will still go ahead.

City have been prudent with their spending so far this summer, landing right-back Bacary Sagna on a free transfer from Arsenal and goalkeeper Willy Caballero for around £6m along with the £12m addition of Porto midfielder Fernando. The Brazilian’s former team-mate is expected to join City in the near future, with Mangala closing on a £32m move from the Portuguese club that will bring the curtain down on City’s transfer business.

Having suffered the wrath of Uefa over the breach of their Financial Fair Play regulations last season, Soriano revealed that the club had identified the positions that required strengthening this time last year, and that the club are no longer in a position where they need to sign big names in the effort to boost their reputation, which they could have been accused of in previous years.

“We knew one year ago the positions we wanted to reinforce in the team and we did it,” said Soriano. “We have a new right-back, a new holding midfielder, and we will have a new central defender and that's it. We don't need to sign new players for the sake of it.”

The former Barcelona director is also hoping that the club can look to build on last season’s successes in the form of a Premier League and Capital One Cup double. The club have made no secret of their craving to succeed in the Champions League, and Soriano believes that the squad can flourish in their second season under Manuel Pellegrini’s guidance.

“Our squad is very strong and it's the second year they play coached by Manuel Pellegrini, so they'll do much better,” added Soriano.

City begin their season next Sunday with the Community Shield against Arsenal, in the knowledge that they secured the League Cup the last time they travelled south to play at Wembley.
