From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid, Pogba’s preferred destination, have all but withdrawn from the race after being deterred by Juventus’ £100million asking price.
The France international will now hold talks with his agent, Mino Raiola, over his future and a potential return to Manchester.
If Pogba does end up at Old Trafford, the spending may not stop there.
According to the Daily Record, following four ‘fundamental’ signings, Jose Mourinho’s first ‘supplementary’ buy will be an experienced central defender.
The position was one of four identified by the Portuguese as an area to strengthen and, despite Eric Bailly’s arrival from Villarreal, he is reportedly keen for more options at the back.
It is also claimed that the club failed in an attempt to sign Odion Ighalo, the Watford striker, last January and that Juan Mata, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo will all be shipped out of Old Trafford before transfer deadline day.
According to the Daily Express, United are demanding just £20million for Mata, who nevertheless hopes to stay and fight for a place in the starting line-up.
Tyler Blackett and Guillermo Varela will also be allowed to leave the club this summer, according to Sky Sports.
The pair, who both made first-team debuts under Mourinho's predecessor Louis van Gaal, are not thought to have trained with United’s first-team squad since returning for pre-season.
