Gomes’ current Old Trafford deal is set to expire at the end of the month, with uncertainty over he will be available to Solskjaer for the extended Premier League season.
The United manager said on Thursday that an agreement with Gomes was “not too far away”, but added there will be no hard feelings if the 19-year-old does not sign new terms.
“With Angel, he’s a top top kid we’ve had in the club for so many years,” Solskjaer said.
“We’ve offered him a deal, hopefully he’ll take that. If not I’ll wish him all the best. Hopefully, from what I understand, it’s not too far away. If not, we’ll wish him all the best.”
Gomes will be able to leave Old Trafford as a free agent if he does not agree a new contract before 30 June, with Chelsea among the clubs heavily linked.
The England Under-17 World Cup-winning captain has only made three starts for United this season, all of them coming in the Europa League.
Gomes travelled with the United squad for their final outing before lockdown - the last-16 trip to LASK Linz - but was left out of Solskjaer's matchday squad.
The yonugster's relative lack of playing time is understood to be linked to the contract negotiations, which have dragged on throughout the season.
And whereas United have secured fellow academy graduates Tahith Chong, Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood to new deals this year, Gomes has so far remained elusive.
