Remy has been linked with a move to the Reds as well as Arsenal and Tottenham following a season-long loan spell with Newcastle. But it is Brendan Rodgers’ side who have gained the advantage in the race for Remy, after reports suggested QPR have given the 27-year0old the go ahead to negotiate a move away from the club.
Ranger manager Harry Redknapp has made no secret that Remy is likely to leave this summer, having previously confirmed that he had a release clause inserted in his contract around the £8m mark, and he admitted earlier this week that Remy is on his way out of the newly promoted club.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Redknapp said: “We gave him time off after the World Cup but I think he’s really looking to move. I would be surprised if he was at QPR at the start of the year.”
Liverpool have already signed England striker Rickie Lambert in a £4m deal from Southampton, but the departure of Luis Suarez for £75m has led Rodgers to increase his effort in his pursuit of Remy.
Arsenal were originally thought to be in pole position to land the former Marseille striker, who also spent time with Lyon, Lens and Nice, but the delay in any move to the Emirates prompted suggestion that Remy would seek a move elsewhere.
Remy netted 14 Premier League goals for the Magpies last term, and while Alan Pardew was believed to be interested in keeping hold of his prize asset, a move to Anfield would be hard to turn down.
Another Liverpool striker looks set to be on his way out of the club after reports emerged on Friday claiming that Sunderland had made a £14m bid for Italian forward Fabio Borini, who impressed during a loan spell with the Black Cats last season.
