Your support makes all the difference.Brendan Rodgers has a liking for signing players from Southampton for large transfer fees, we get it. But former Saints defender Francis Benali thinks he has cracked Liverpool's transfer policy with his plans to sell a garden chair for £8m.
Benali took to Twitter to make light of the £12.5m move for Nathaniel Clyne that saw Liverpool clinch their sixth signing of the summer. However, the transfer also represents the fourth Southampton player to move to Anfield in less than a year, and it appears Saints’ fans have had enough.
Last summer Rodgers prised Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren to Merseyside for a combined £49m, and the Northern Irishman has tapped into their Premier League rivals once again to lure England international Clyne to Liverpool for what has been considered a rather cheap deal.
But Benali was quick to have his fun at Rodgers and Liverpool’s expense, as he posted a picture of a garden chair on his Twitter account having given it the upgrade of having a Southampton badge stuck to it.
Benali added the caption: “Struggled to sell this chair for weeks online, but just put this on it and Brendan Rodgers has bid £8M!! #saintsfc.”
Benali made 311 appearances for the south coast club in an incredible 16-year career, before moving on to Eastleigh in 2006 for two years the end his career.
