Liverpool FC were keen to make an approach for free agent Franck Ribery this summer, according to L’Equipe.

The 36-year-old left Bayern Munich in the summer after 12 years at the German champions, however, despite Jurgen Klopp’s admiration of the Frenchman, wages appeared to be a stumbling block.

The Reds have completed the signing of 16-year-old wonderkid Harvey Elliott from Fulham.

Elliott became the youngest player in Premier League history when he played against Wolves in May and was being tracked by a number of Europe’s elite clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG and RB Leipzig before deciding on the Champions League winners.

Dani Alves remains a free agent, having left PSG in the summer, and is actively looking for a new club after an impressive Copa America win with Brazil.

“Looking for a job, where do I put my CV? Someone let me know if you have time to read it,” Alves posted on social media.

Having lost Nathaniel Clyne to injury, Alves has been touted as a player capable of coming in as cover and adding experience to the dressing room. However, his exorbitant wage bracket could also make any deal problematic.

Hakim Ziyech, who was tracked by both Liverpool and Arsenal at the start of the window, is set to remain at Ajax for another season after only Sevilla made a move for the Moroccan.

Ziyech said he didn’t believe a move to the Spanish side was a step up from Ajax and will now wait until next summer in hope one of Europe’s top clubs will make a play for him.

The Reds haven’t ended their pursuit of Portuguese midfielder Idrissa Doumbia, after the Ivorian impressed in a pre-season friendly against the club.

A deal is unlikely to be concluded this summer but Liverpool are now tracking his progress with a view to making a move in the next window.

Klopp admitted that Liverpool do not have a wealth of funds to bolster his Champions League-winning squad having instead focused on signing key players down to long-term contracts.
