The Argentinian could find himself on his way out of the Parisian club as they need to offload players in order to sign Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria so to comply with Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
Lavezzi has only been with PSG for two seasons but has won the Ligue 1 title in both, and he has long been linked with a move to the Premier League with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool reported to be interested in his services over the years.
The 29-year-old has been identified as an alternative to Loic Remy after the Frenchman failed a medical ahead of his proposed move to Liverpool, and Brendan Rodgers is said to be considering an £18m offer for Lavezzi.
The Reds are hopeful of acquiring Lavezzi for less than he joined PSG for considering the club need to sell in order to land Lavezzi’s compatriot Di Maria, but one potential problem is that reports suggest Lavezzi would favour a return to Italy rather than a move to England, having previously played for Napoli before heading to France.
Liverpool have already spent nearly £90m this summer on adding Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren from Southampton, along with Emre Can, Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi.
They’re expected to surpass the £100m mark with the additions of Spanish pair Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo in the coming days, and any move for Lavezzi would see that spending increase even further, although they certainly have the firepower to do so following the £75m sale of Luis Suarez and the financial boost the a return to the Champions League will bring.
