The transfer of Loic Remy to Liverpool from Queens Park Rangers appears to be off after concerns over his medical, according to reports.

The France international looked set for a switch to Anfield after Liverpool met the £8.5m release clause in the striker's current contract.

The 27-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Newcastle, travelled to Boston this week to finalise the details of his move. It's understood it had even been agreed that Remy would wear the iconic No 7 shirt at Anfield.

However, Sky Sports report that Liverpool have pulled out of the deal "after concerns over his medical". It's claimed that the Reds sought a second opinion over a particular concern, after which they pulled out of the deal.

It would not be the first time Remy has had issues surrounding medicals. His switch to Marseille in 2010 was held up amid concerns over a potential heart problem. At the time a Marseille club doctor said "it's a mechanical problem" before his transfer from Nice finally went through.

The news could spark a scrap for Remy's services who last season proved his ability at Premier League level with 14 goals in 26 league appearances for the Magpies.

The France international, who has 24 caps for Les Bleus, was reportedly close to joining Arsenal earlier this summer but was unable to agree terms at the Emirates.
