From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 22-year-old left-back completed his £16.7million switch to the Nou Camp on Wednesday, but only after the Merseyside club had made one last, doomed attempt to snare him.
Digne was linked with a move to Anfield last summer before he joined Roma on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
Jurgen Klopp’s search for a left-back continues apace then, as does his quest to find a suitor for Christian Benteke.
Widespread reports across Thursday’s national newspapers – including The Guardian – suggest that both Crystal Palace and West Ham United have thought twice about shelling out £32.5million on the striker.
Liverpool are keen to recoup the full amount they paid Aston Villa for Benteke’s services last summer, though the price-tag – combined with his significant wages – are proving an obstacle.
Piotr Zielinski is in ‘constant contact’ with Klopp, report the Daily Star – citing Emanuele Giulianelli, the Italian football journalist.
The Poland international, who is thought to have his heart set on a move to Anfield, is also the subject of interest from Milan.
The Serie A club have reportedly held talks with Udinese, Zielinski’s current side, and remain in pole position to sign the midfielder.
And finally, Jordon Ibe’s transfer to Bournemouth is expected to be completed in the coming days.
According to Sky Sports, the 20-year-old winger has flown to Chicago to meet up with the south-coast club, who have travelled to the United States for a training camp.
