Your support makes all the difference.Jürgen Klopp has disclosed there is no agreement preventing him buying players from his former club, Borussia Dortmund, and that he has money available in the January transfer window.
There were reports, when Klopp joined Liverpool last month, that he had an agreement not to raid his old team in his search for reinforcements. However, in the build-up to today’s game with Swansea, the German said: “I have no agreement with Borussia Dortmund. I know it has been said, but no.”
Liverpool need strengthening at the back and should Klopp look to the Westfalenstadion for reinforcements, Mats Hummels, who is a great admirer of the Liverpool manager, would be an obvious target. Klopp hinted, though, that the World Cup-winning centre-half might be out of his price range. A more likely target may be Hummels’ partner in central defence, the Serbian international Neven Subotic, who is likely to cost less than £15 million. Nuri Sahin, who spent an unhappy six months at Anfield, where he became angered by Brendan Rodgers’ refusal to play him in his proper position, is more affordable.
“If we have to battle with Manchester City, they can pay crazy money in a crazy market, so maybe we don’t look at the big players. Maybe we don’t always take the guy who everybody knows,” Klopp said.
“I have a good relationship with Borussia Dortmund and I have a very good relationship with all their players. If there was a possibility and we needed a player, we could try but at the moment there is no agreement to buy anyone from Borussia Dortmund or to sell to them.”
Klopp said he had been busy planning which players he wants to bring to Anfield: “I am here at the training ground from morning to night... we talk about players and make sure we are prepared for the moment when we need to be ready.”
The Reds take on Swansea City in the Premier League at Anfield today, aiming to make it three victories in a row in all competitions.
