From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The 17-year-old striker was the subject of an audacious £11m bid from the Merseyside club.
According to ESPN, Dortmund are unwilling to sell the highly-rated youngster, who arrived in Westphalia during Jürgen Klopp’s time as manager.
However, Klopp’s successor, Thomas Tuchel, is apparently open to loan offers for Pulisic.
Mario Balotelli’s long search for a new club may finally be over.
The misfit Liverpool striker poised to join Nice, with a permanent move expected to go through before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
Mino Raiola, Balotelli’s agent, is expected to conclude negotiations with the Ligue 1 club imminently, according to the Daily Express.
Thought it had been suggested that Balotelli may end up working under Maurizio Zamparini’s maverick regime at Palermo, it now appears that we’re in for a slightly quieter ride.
The fire sale at Anfield does not stop there, however.
Luis Alberto, who arrived three years ago to much fanfare, looks set to join Lazio.
The two clubs have agreed a £4.2m deal, with add-ons and a 30 per cent sell-on fee included.
According to ESPN, the 23-year-old midfielder is yet to agree personal terms with Lazio, who pinpointed Alberto as a target following his loan spell at Deportivo La Coruna last season.
Andre Wisdom has also been allowed to move, but only a temporary basis.
The 23-year-old defender has joined Red Bull Salzburg on a season-long loan, despite attracting interest from Celtic.
Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic manager, handed Wisdom his senior Liverpool debut during his first season with club in 2012.
