Liverpool take on Aston Villa today which will give them a first-hand look at reported transfer target Fabian Delph. The Villa midfielder returns from suspension, but he could find himself on the way to Anfield in the not too distant future.
The Daily Star report that the Reds are in the hunt to land Delph, who is out of contract in the summer, could be sold this month to avoid Villa losing him for free at the end of the season, and a bid of £8m could be enough to land the 25-year-old.
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has also warned Liverpool that they have a battle on their hands to sign Alex Song from Barcelona at the end of the season. The Cameroonian, who recently retired from international football to focus on his club career, is likely to be sold in the summer, and Allardyce is determined to keep Song at Upton Park when his season-long loan ends in the summer.
HEADING FOR THE EXIT…
Suso has completed his permanent move to Italian side AC Milan after securing a loan until the end of the season when he will join the club on a free transfer. The Spaniard, who joined the Reds in 2010 from Cadiz, but he failed to make any impact of note and was shipped out on loan to Almeria for the 2013-14 season where he scored three goals in La Liga. However, he only netted once for Liverpool in 21 appearances and will depart the Premier League with a whimper.
Mario Balotelli will be staying at Anfield after informing Brendan Rodgers of his determination to fight for his place to lead Liverpool’s attack. The Italian has been out-of-favour in recent weeks since returning from injury, and talk of a swift return to Italy plus a loan move to Greek side Olympiakos has intensified along with reports of Rodgers moving to bring in another striker. However, it appears that Balotelli will be given until at least the end of the season to show he belongs in the Premier league.
MISSING OUT?
Liverpool’s reported interest for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi could be derailed by a move from Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, who are considering a player-plus-cash offer that includes midfielder Mario Suarez heading to Italy. Both Liverpool and Chelsea are believed to be considering a move for the 21-year-old Argentinian though that may be held off until the summer, but Atletico’s move could force both clubs into a rushed bid for the £30m-rated striker.
