Javier Hernandez is the surprise name to be linked with a move to Anfield this morning.

Liverpool have kept tabs on the striker ever since his Manchester United days, according to The Times, but the historic rivalry between the two clubs always made any deal unlikely.

Since Hernandez’s move to Bayer Leverkusen for £8.3million last summer, the Mexican’s form has improved dramatically and he has scored 19 goals in 26 appearances.

The Bundesliga club are reluctant to do a deal this month and a summer switch is more likely, though the 27-year-old may set Liverpool back as much as £20million.

According to The Mirror, another name on Jurgen Klopp’s hitlist is Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski, who is currently on loan at Empoli.

Again, despite Liverpool’s eagerness to wrap up a deal in the coming days, the 21-year-old Polish international is likely to be a summer target as he is settled and enjoying regular first-team football ahead of the European Championships.

Klopp is prepared to wait for his man, who would cost in the region of £11million.

Zielinski’s potential arrival throws the future of Joe Allen further into doubt.

Despite scoring some crucial foals in recent weeks, as well as the penalty which confirmed Liverpool’s place in the Capital One Cup final, the Welshman’s Anfield future remains unclear.

A return to Swansea City appears most likely after talks regarding a new contract stalled when Brendan Rodgers left in October.

Another player who could be on his way out is Adam Bogdan.

The Hungarian goalkeeper has failed to grasp his opportunity while filling in for the shaky Simon Mignolet, with mistakes against Watford and Exeter City costing him further first-team action.

Sky Sports believes that Ligue 1 side Reims are prepared to take the former Bolton Wanderers players on loan until the end of the season, though it remains to be seen whether Klopp is ready to let Bogdan leave.

There’s still been little movement on Alex Teixeira, though a move is looking increasingly unlikely.

According to the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce, there is little more that chief executive Ian Ayre and co. can do, as Shakthar stand firm on that £38million price tag.

“It would now take a serious change of heart from either side for the deadlock to be broken,” writes Pearce.

One player who was heavily linked with Anfield at the start of the month has just sealed a move elsewhere.

Inter centre-back Andrea Ranocchia, who had also attracted the attentions of Norwich City, has elected to stay in Serie A and sign for Sampdoria.

It had been rumoured that Klopp was counting on the Italian international to solve Liverpool’s defensive crisis but, following the loan signing of Steven Caulker, the club decided against signing the 27-year-old.
