Liverpool appear to be ready to release as many as four players in January, with Ryan Babel, Andrea Dossena, Andrei Voronin and Philipp Degen among those who may leave as part of the club's attempts to lower the wage bill.
But it won't just be about cost cuts and manager Rafael Benitez will want to replace the dead wood in the squad with new talent. With the summer's big signing Alberto Aquilani hardly on the field yet, it is unlikely that he'll get huge money to spend, but some fresh blood is needed.
Benitez isn't going to sign all of these and he may pick up just one or two in the January window, but these are the names rumoured to be on his short(ish) list.
