Leicester City target Islam Slimani has appeared to bid an emotional goodbye to Sporting Lisbon after scoring in the 2-1 victory against Porto in the Dragões-Leões derby on Sunday.

The 28-year-old’s representatives have held further talks in Lisbon with the Premier League champions, who are seeking extra firepower ahead of the Champions League group stage, over a proposed club-record transfer worth in the region of £30m.

Slimani, an international team-mate of Leicester’s Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, scored 27 goals last term as Sporting finished runners-up to Benfica in the Primeira Liga and is contracted with the Verdes e Brancos until 2020.

Claudio Ranieri, the Leicester manager, has also been linked with a move for another Sporting star with Portuguese midfielder Adrien Silva, 27, appearing to confirm reports that he is destined for a £20m switch to the King Power Stadium.

Quizzed about Leicester’s interest by Porto-based newspaper O Jogo, Silva said: “Yes, I confirm this proposal. Leicester is very interesting and corresponds to my career goals.

“After the past 15 years at Sporting, this opportunity is something exceptional for me and can allow me to express and impose myself in another championship, and also to evolve in the Premier League, which is a stunning league.”

Goals from Jamie Vardy and Wes Morgan helped Leicester to a 2-1 win against Swansea on Saturday, their first of the campaign, ahead of a trips to Liverpool and Club Brugge after the international break.
