From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The German centre-back has barely played for the Potters in the past 14 months after falling victim to a long-term knee injury in November 2013.
The Foxes, on the other hand, have been looking for defensive cover despite the news that Liam Moore's injury, sustained during the FA Cup fourth round victory over Tottenham, isn't as bad as previously feared.
A host of other top flight clubs remain interested but Leicester are confident of getting the deal over the line.
Huth had previously been ever-present in the Stoke defence and can boast 187 league and cup appearances since his £5m move from Middlesbrough in August 2009.
Should the deal be completed before deadline day, the 30-year-old will arrive at the King Power Stadium with Nigel Pearson's men rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
Rumours in the West Midlands had suggested that former manager Tony Pulis may be interested in taking the German to West Bromwich Albion but Leicester have wrapped up the deal quickly.
Meanwhile the Foxes remain interested in signing Mainz striker Shinji Okazaki - despite the Bundesliga club's inflated asking price.
The Japanese international has scored 41 goals for his country and would set the Foxes back at least £10m if a deal is to be completed this month.
Nigel Pearson has already completed a club-record £9.5m swoop for Andrej Kramaric but is reportedly keen to add further firepower to his misfiring strike force.
The 28-year-old picked up a thigh strain during the Asia Cup defeat to United Arab Emirates last week but should be able to complete a medical should the two clubs agree a fee.
