Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chelsea travel to Arsenal on Sunday with the Portuguese manager hoping to continue his unbeaten record against the Frenchman which could stretch to 13 matches at the Emirates.
Speaking at his press conference on Thursday, Wenger criticised Chelsea's pragmatic style of play that has seen them go unbeaten in the Premier League since New Year's Day.
"Our job is to win football games and that’s what they’ve done in recent games," said Wenger. "Is there anything to see in that? I leave you to assess that. But what’s important for me is to do what it takes to win the game [against Chelsea]. It’s easy to defend, if we have to defend then we will defend."
When asked about it on Friday, Mourinho was not impressed and fired back, pointing out the terrible Arsenal performance at home to Monaco that eventually saw them crash out of the Champions League.
"It [defending] is not easy," Mourinho said, "not easy. If it was easy, he wouldn’t lose 3-1 at home to Monaco. If he defends well he draws 0-0 against Monaco and wins in Monte Carlo. It’s not easy to defend."
