Manchester City are closing in on the £23m transfer of Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.

Reports in German newspaper Bild have claimed that the 25-year-old will join City this summer after agreeing a five-year contract.

The Manchester Evening News have added that the midfielder is on incoming manager Pep Guardiola's wishlist at City.

The Dortmund coach, Thomas Tuchel, has refused to rule out the move: "I can’t confirm the transfer."

He added: "And shouldn’t it be the other way round? We have to announce it."

Speculation intensified recently after City football director Txiki Begiristain was pictured meeting Gundogan's uncle and agent Ilhan in Amsterdam.

Gundogan has been at Dortmund since 2011, winning the Bundesliga title with the club under Jurgen Klopp in 2012.

He has made 16 appearances for the German national team, scoring four goals.

City are next in action on Tuesday, away to Newcastle United in the Premier League.
