Harry Kane to Manchester United: Tottenham striker insists talk of Old Trafford switch has not been a distraction

The Tottenham striker Harry Kane has insisted that talk of a move to Manchester United has not been a distraction and he remains 'happy and focused' at White Hart Lane.

Louis van Gaal’s side have been linked with a £40 million move for Kane throughout the summer after the 22-year-old scored 21 league goals in his first full Premier League season, earning an England call-up.

But in an interview with the Telegraph, Kane insisted that such talk has not affected his preparations for the new campaign.

“I’m happy. I’m focused on what I do,” he said. “I’m happy at Tottenham which is a great club headed in the right direction.

“I just want to get the games going, get into the rhythm and start scoring goals.”

Spurs have insisted that the striker is going nowhere, despite rumours emerging earlier this week that United had tabled a ‘discreet bid’.

Louis van Gaal has said that strengthening the position is ‘not a special objective’ for United, despite the summer departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.

Beyond Wayne Rooney, the club has Javier Hernandez and James Wilson as striking options, while the manager considers Adnan Januzaj, who scored the winner as United beat Aston Villa 1-0 last night, as additional cover.

Spurs’ opening match of the season was at Old Trafford and Kane, who played 90 minutes up front, failed to find the net as the visitors succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.
