Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Blues confirmed over the weekend that they had agreed a deal with Belgian champions Genk to sign the 19-year-old, who would be Villas-Boas' first signing since taking charge at Stamford Bridge.
Villas-Boas, speaking on arrival in Malaysia where Chelsea will play a pre-season friendly on Thursday, told www.chelseafc.com: "At this moment he is having a medical but has not yet agreed personal terms."
Courtois was voted Genk's player of the year last season as they won the national title, and was also named Belgian goalkeeper of the year.
Courtois made his league debut for Genk in April 2009, aged just 16.
Chelsea added on their official website: "It is not expected that he will join up with the squad in Asia should the transfer be completed in time."
Following the match against a Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur, Chelsea move on to Bangkok to take on the Thailand All Stars before travelling to Hong Kong for two matches in the Barclays Asia Trophy.
