RB Leipzig still hope for a softening in Everton’s position as they try to complete a deal for England winger Ademola Lookman this week.

The Bundesliga side have been chasing Lookman all summer after his successful loan spell in Germany in the second half of last season. Leipzig have already had two offers for Lookman rejected earlier in the window, of £12million plus add-ons and then £14m plus add-ons.

Everton have always said publicly that they do not want to sell Lookman, who they bought for £8m, rising to a potential £11m, from Charlton Athletic in January 2017.

Leipzig had hoped that £20m would be enough to secure Lookman’s permanent signature, but have found Everton reluctant to negotiate further and so have not yet submitted a third bid for the player. However, Everton have signed 21-year-old winger Richarlison from Watford for a fee that could rise to £50m, pushing Lookman further down the pecking order at Goodison Park next season.

Now Leipzig hope that Everton will re-open negotiations for Lookman in the final 10 days of the transfer window. Even if it means pushing the eventual price up to £25m for the England under-21 international.

Lookman spent the second half of last season on loan at Leipzig where he impressed as the team secured a Europa League qualification spot in the Bundesliga.

He is keen to move permanently to Germany in part because he knows he will be part of Ralf Rangnick’s first team next season. At Everton, Lookman would only be a promising youngster, behind first-team wingers Richarlison and Theo Walcott.
