Diego Costa’s long awaited move to Chelsea took another step closer to completion on Saturday night after the striker said ‘it looks like’ he is joining the Blues.

The deal is reportedly all but done and this is the first time the player himself has commented on the move.

Speaking after Spain’s 2-0 victory over El Salvador, Costa told Spanish newspaper AS: "Am I going to Chelsea? It looks like it."

Chelsea have been frustrated by apparent time wasting from Atletico Madrid over the move, with the Blues feeling like the Spanish champions are purposefully delaying the deal in order to weigh up any better offers from rival clubs.

Chelsea have already matched the £32million buyout clause in Costa’s contract that should be enough to bring him to Stamford Bridge but problems have remained over finalising the deal.

The 25-year-old started and featured prominently during Spain’s win over minnows El Salvador, their final match before meeting the Netherlands in their opening World Cup game on June 13.

Costa also said after the match: "It was good to get rid of the fear I had. I am not 100 per cent, but about the injury, it is clear that I am very well, that I am better. So this week I must work hard."
